Primary Shool 23rd August 2013

Sri. N A Haris, M.L.A, Chief Guest of the day, Mrs. Kittu Umberkoman, President, Mr. Vishwanath Rao, Treasurer, Members of the managing committee, Stracey Memorial Education Society, Heads of the various institutions, well wishers, ladies and gentlemen, staff and students, today is a great day in the history of the Stracey Memorial Primary School as the achievements of the students in different fields (academic and cultural), during the year 2012-13 were identified and are being suitably rewarded.
Today it is our pleasure and honour to have Mr.N A Haris, MLA, Shantinagar constituency, Bengaluru.  It’s our pride to say that he is the Alumni of Stracey Memorial High School.
Mr. N A Haris, a post graduate in History, is the son of Mr. N A Mohammed, a former president of Bhadravathi municipality, Shimoga district.  As he had been brought up with the ideologies of Congress from his childhood and his leadership qualities from his student’s life made him enter into the political arena.  He was elected first time in the year 2008 and again the year 2013 in the Legislative Assembly Election.  It is noteworthy that, this is the first consecutive victory of any candidate in Shantinagar Assembly constituency after independence.  Today, Shantinagar constituency is adjudged the second best constituency in Bangalore city as per the survey done by one of the media.
Mr. Haris has held various positions in his party.  He was the general secretary and later vice president of Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee.  He is the Pradesh Congress Committee member from 1999 till date.
We have Mr. Haris here not merely as a political leader but for his highly remarkable  social  services  through  the  foundation started by him. He started Nalapad foundation and N A Haris foundation with a sole objective of providing free education, medical assistance and hence for the needy. Every year, more than 7,000 students are benefitted from these foundations.  Moreover, seminars are conducted on various subjects to encourage students and youth to participate in social awareness, civic awareness and environmental activities. 
He has many awards to his credit.  He has been honoured with prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani award for meritorious accomplishments in diverse fields of activities that has immensely contributed for the nation’s progress.  He has received Majtis-E-adab Golden Jubilee Award, Paryatan Vikas Bharati award and National Excellence award.
Mr. Haris being fluent in 8 languages has helped him to reach to all classes of people.
We, wholeheartedly, welcome you, Sir.

ANNUAL REPORT:
Prize Distribution Day is special and an important day as it reflects the day to day activity of the institution.  On this occasion, I extend my hearty welcome to Mrs. Kittu Umberkoman, the President of Stracey Memorial Education Society, who is instrumental in the progess and development of this institution.  May God bless her to serve the cause of education for many more years to come.
I also welcome Mr. P R Vishwanath Rao, Treasurer, who have greatly contributed in the development of the institution. I extend my hearty welcome to the members of the Managing Committee, well wishers, parents and other distinguished guests.

INCEPTION OF THE INSTITUTION:
Late Mr. Ralph Stracey, a retired ICS Officer, sowed the seed of the institution in July 1964 with only one pupil on its roll.  It served as a feeder school to the ICSE schools situated in the area. The founders main vision was to impart English education to the children of the Anglo Indian Community and other minority groups.  Later in 1972, the school instead of being a feeder school joined the main stream of education in Karnataka State by switching over to the SSLC pattern of the Karnataka State.  Now it is a co-educational English Medium Institution following Secondary school and Pre University Board Curriculum.

ADMISSIONS AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT:
The motto of the management is to provide admission to all the classes without any pre-admission test.  Despite this, it has been possible to maintain high academic standard.
The results of the 7th Standard examination for the past three years prove this statement :-

Excellent results, high standard of teaching, with well trained and experienced teaching faculty, well equipped laboratories and a well defined library, a moderate fee structure and all other facilities has made this institution reachable to every one.
The strength of the institution is maintained with a stability every year and at present the strength of the Primary School is 1185, including Nursery section.

SCIENCE CLUB ACTIVITIES:
The Science Club conducted various competitions for the year 2012-13.   We had Elocution competition in which students of higher primary participated with fluency and presented their speeches in an exemplary way.  Apart from Elocution, we also conducted various competitions like pick and speak, spell bee, quiz, dumb charades and so on.  This gave the students a platform to chisel their skills.

SPORTS ACTIVITIES:
We are very happy to inform that primary student participated sportively in many sports events which was conducted in our school and also in Inter school competition. Zonal level sports competitions were held on 30.07.13 and 31.07.13.  Poornima of VII B won first place in long jump and third place in 100 mts. She is selected for Taluk level sports on 27th and 28th of August 2013.
Umme Rumana of VIIA won first place in 400 mts running race.  She is also selected for Taluk level sports.
Our primary boys were declared runners up in the Shuttle badminton and table tennis events.

SCHOOL EXCURSION:
The school conducted one day picnic for the Primary section to have a break from the daily routine.
In the month of November, the students of lower Primary section had been to ‘Capital Club’ resort at Bangalore. The higher primary students  were taken to ‘Wonder la’.

SCOUTS AND GUIDES:
The Investiture ceremony was held for Cub’s and Bul Buls at the school premises.  The Cubs  and  Bulbuls were divided into groups and names
were given. The selected ‘sixer’ or leaders attended a leadership training camp at St. John’s school.  They were eight Cubs and seven Bulbuls. The Cubs and Bulbuls actively participated in the Independence day celebration, Annual Day, Sports Day, Republic day.  The cubs, bulbuls participated in the flag day celebration held by the Stracey School scouts under the leadership of the Principal. They also attended a  rally on ‘youth day’ on account of Swami Vivekananda’s birthday celebration at Sri Kanteerava Stadium.  The activities of the Cub’s & Bulbul’s came to an end on the ‘Thinking Day’ birthday of the founder.    

ARTS AND PAINTING SECTION:
The students participated in various competitions. The children participated in painting competitions organized by NANDI TOYOTA on June 26th 2012. Also a painting competition ‘PRATHIBA KARANJI’ was held from 8th November to 4th December 2012.  Besides, the Bank of Baroda organized one more competition on 4th December 2012.  Again,  there was a competition on ‘ROAD SAFETY’ on 6th January 2013. Similarly, the HP Company organized a painting competition on 10th February 2013.

SAVE TIGERS:
‘KID’S FOR TIGERS’ is a nation-wide effort of school children to save the wild tiger and its habitat from extinction. On 26th July 2012, ‘WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY’ was celebrated in our school premises by conducting   various  programmes   like   ‘Face painting,  mask  making,

drawing   competition   and   also   held   a    rally  in   front of the school
conveying the message, “SAVE FOREST”, “PREVENT GLOBAL WARMING” and “A TREE IN EVERY HOUSE”.  Students participated in ‘NATURE’S WALK’ at Lalbagh. We have four school’s ambassadors for ‘SAVE TIGERS’.       

OTHER ACTIVITIES:
The school observed, as usual, Independence day, Founder’s Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, Children’s Day and Republic Day.  The students and staff have helped the NGOs like ‘Little sisters’ of the poor and ‘Sri Rakum School of Physically challenged’.

FEE CONCESSION:
As in the previous years, fee concessions amounting to Rs. 22,000 (Rupees twenty two thousand) were granted to needy students in Nursery and Primary section.

STAFF WELFARE:
The benign management has shown much concern for the staff by granting 6th pay commission pay scales in addition to 5% Dearness allowance this year along with the management contribution of P.F. and Gratuity.  We are always grateful to the management for their kind act. We staff members assure the management that we will maintain high standard of the institution.

Sri. S Suresh Kumar, former minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and B.W.S.S.B., Mrs. Kittu Umberkoman, President, Mr. Vishwanath Rao, Treasurer, Members of the managing committee, Stracey Memorial Education Society, Heads of the various institutions, well wishers, parents,  ladies and gentlemen, staff and students, today is a great day in the history of the Stracey Memorial Composite P U College as the achievements of the students in different fields (academic and cultural), during the year 2012-13 were identified and are being suitably rewarded.
Sri. S Suresh Kumar, a man of ideals and moral values is a son of a retired Government school teacher.  He is a Science graduate from Bangalore University and completed his law from the same University in 1980.  He started his career as an advocate and later pursued his political career.
He joined RSS at a very young age which inculcated lasting values in him.  The three main people who have been his constant support and inspiration are firstly, his mother, who was a teacher and has ensured him to lead a principled and disciplined life.  Secondly, his wife, a journalist, who is always supporting his political initiatives. Thirdly, his daughter, a medical student, who has been his first critic.
As a politician, he has been in the field for more than three decades now and is proud to be committed to one party – BJP – for its nationalistic ideals.  He was elected to BBMP twice and to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly thrice.  Today he is considered as one of the front ranking political leaders of his party in Karnataka.
He has been known as an ideal public representative and an ideal legislator.  Suresh Kumar has always put his foot forward when it

came to the protection of the larger interests of the people.  He has always strived for the overall development of his constituency.
During his tenure as a minister, he was always approachable for the solutions  of day-to-day problems of his constituency. He is a role model for the upcoming politicians.
We wish him good health and bright future in his personal life and in his political career.

The strength of the institution is maintained with a stability every year and at present the strength of the High School is 668 and the P U College 606.

SCIENCE CLUB ACTIVITIES:
The School management has provided well-equipped laboratories to educate students through practical knowledge.  The Science Club conducted Science exhibitions and the students from the school and college participated very enthusiastically.  They exhibited their inherent scientific ideas by developing various kinds of models, projects, etc.  It was a very educative programme for the children. A good number of activities like Essay Writing, Pick and Speak, Painting on Afforestation and Global Warming was conducted.  The Science Club is thus active throughout the academic year.

THE GREEN CLUB:
The Green Club of Stracey Memorial Comp. P. U. College is aware and active in its responsibilities towards educating and inculcating environmental awareness among the students.
In this regard, our students actively participated in various activities conducted by Save Tigers, Rotary Club and Interact Club.  Students participated in Science Exhibitions and various other programmes conducted by ‘CEE’ at Bal Bhavan.

SPORTS ACTIVITIES:
Our school students took part in various sports events which were conducted in this academic year.  A keen interest was shown by our students as they faced their rivals in the midst of tough competition.
This year’s inter school taluk level badminton championship for high school boys team played brilliantly to win the event and the team consisted of  Yogesh R of X’B’, Sahil M S of VIII ‘B’,   Chintu Bansali

of X’B’, Tejas Rajof VIII’C’, A Arokia Raj of VIII’C’ and Lagan K Mehta of VIII ‘C’. The students of the girls team winners are Sushmitha of VIII “A’, Aliya  of X’A’. Kavya of X ‘A’, Marya of VIII ‘A’ & Aishwarya of IX’A’.
Our school had participated in the basket ball match held at Indira Nagar ground on 25.07.13 & won the runner cup.
Our school has participated in the KSCA Cricket match held at NRA ground near fun world & defeated the Carmel High School
Mr. Bhupendra G of IX has won the First place in the National level Karate championship held in Koramangala on 20th August 2013.
I would also like to mention that our students displayed individual excellence exhibiting wonderful team spirit.  Many congratulations to them, I wish them good luck in their future sporting encounter.

COLLEGE SECTION:
The P U Students have actively participated in Inter-college sport events held by P U Board and won many prizes by and have made our institution very proud.  The college basket ball team will be participating in the inter-college level basket-ball championship on 27th of August at St. Joseph’s College.

SCHOOL EXCURSION:
The school conducted the educational tour for the students in the month of October 2012 to help them to know the importance of various places. We visited Delhi,  Agra, Fatepur Sikri, etc.,
Both the High school and college students were taken to Wonder la, the amusement park, in the month of November 2012.

SCOUTS AND GUIDES:
The programme for the year started with the Investiture ceremony.  The Scouts & Guides were divided into groups and the selected leaders were sent to a leadership training at St. John’s school.  There were ten scouts and eight bulbuls.
The Scouts and Guides actively participated in the Independence day celebration, Annual Day programmes held at the school premises. The scouts & guides attended the ‘Vijay Divas’, a function to honour the martyrs, held at Raj Bhavan, under the leadership of our respected Principal on 15.10.2012.
The Scouts & Guides played the role of a perfect host in conducting the ‘Flag Day’ celebration with the guidance of the state chief commissioner on 7.11.2012. They also participated in the Marchpast, colour party on Sports Day event on 20.12.2012 held at St. Joseph’s School ground.
The Scouts & Guides participated in the rally of the youth day on account of Swami Vivekananda’s centenary celebration held at Sri Kanteerava stadium. 
The year’s programme winded up after the ‘Thinking Day’ celebration.
